Petra Dvořáková (born 1977) comes from the Vysočina region and studied philosophy at Masaryk University in Brno. She entered the world of literature with her book of interviews *Transformed Dreams*, for which she won the Magnesia Litera Award. This was followed by other successful titles, such as Já jsem hlad (I Am Hunger) and Sítě — příběhy (ne)sebevědomí (Networks — Stories of (Self-)Confidence). The book Julie mezi slovy (Julie Between Words) was awarded the Golden Ribbon for best fiction for young adults and also won the Teachers’ Prize in the SUK poll. For younger readers, she has written the books Flouk and Líla and Everyone Has Their Own Line. Her novel Dědina ranks among the best-selling and most acclaimed works of Czech prose, with the audiobook version winning the Audiobook of the Year 2019 award.
She remained a bestselling author thanks to her novel Chirurg and the novella Vrány, for which she won the Book of the Year 2020 award in the artistic prose category. She has also published the books Zahrada and Pláňata, which have also been very successful. In 2024, her book-length interview Věřil jsem, že to musí jít lepší cestou was published. Total sales of her books have exceeded 150,000 copies.
