Free creative play without strict rules is excellent for developing expressive skills. Children can name the fish by colour, size or order (“The red fish is on top, the blue one next to it”), create stories (“Where are the fish swimming? What does the whale say?”) and thus practise sentence structure and vocabulary. I recommend asking questions during play that encourage description and storytelling.
