The finished house can be closed, storing all the accessories and the figure the child has made themselves inside. Creating miniature houses is a great way to develop vocabulary and imagination. While working, children can describe each step (“I’m sticking the roof on”, “I’m painting the table”) and, once finished, play out stories about the house’s inhabitants. Parents can enrich the play with questions such as: “Where does the character live? What does he or she do in the house?” – this encourages sentence formation, the expression of emotions and the ability to narrate a coherent story.
